Why does it matter how far away the sun is.

Just came back and saw a lot of debate about how far away the sun is, why does it matter. it's not like if it is millions of miles away the earth is suddenly round or flat.

The FE explanation of the change in the angular height of the sun versus observing location on the Earth relies on a small, close sun (thousands of miles distant), whereas the RE explanation relies on a sun essentially at infinity (millions of miles being sufficiently distant).

It matters quite a lot if you ever want to make a workable model of the flat earth system.
Science is what happens when preconception meets verification.

Besides, perhaps FET is a conspiracy too.

It is just the way it is, you understanding it doesn't concern me.

Yes as previously mentioned it matters.

Interestingly though why do these matter:
1.  Sandos aether MM spin vs no spin debate.
2.  Danags phew vs pi.
3.  JojnDavis magical moon rays that can freeze you or turn you into a werepenguin.

The dangers of the moon are well documented in flat earth literature such as Earth: Not A Globe by Samuel Rowbotham. He uses them to show that the moon is self luminous as its rays have a different effect on living matter - a fact documented since antiquity.
The illusion is shattered if we ask what goes on behind the scenes.

It has significant impact on several issues relating to a FE.

Consider the options, we can have a far sun. If this is the case the apparent size of the sun will remain constant, and the direction to the sun will be the same all over Earth, in Cartesian coordinates.
This means if Earth is flat, everyone would see the sun in the same apparent direction. It would rise at the same time for everyone and set at the same time for everyone, and be overhead at the same time for everyone.
However if Earth is round, the apparent direction will be based upon the angle of the ground, if the sun is overhead for someone it will be below someone 180 degrees around Earth.
So if the sun is far away, then Earth must be round.

However if we have a near sun, then as you move around Earth the angle to the sun varies, as does the apparent size.

someone else has documented counter evidence.

and in my household, only my wife goes a little wacko on a full moon...but she's always a little wacko every now and then.

BUT
what does that have to do with flatness?
