Yet, my question remains unanswered. Do tell me, why would a nation such as North Korea would aim to hide the true nature of the earth? What motive would they have? Clearly, it can't be the money for you've got a dictator who has apparent control over the entire budget allocation.

North Korea likely doesn't know. Have you seen their struggles trying to get their ICBM program off the ground?

But let's look at the pilots who all definitely would have to know about a flat earth.

Would they though? They just follow their instruments. Did you know that "flying by the seat of your pants" is a term from almost 100 years ago meaning to fly a plane without instruments? It's a term so divorced from its original meaning that people have no idea where it came from. That's because no one "flies by the seat of their pants" any longer. It's all done by instruments; instruments that pilots have no clue how they work.

If given unlimited materials and tasked with rebuilding the instruments in their cockpit, how many pilots do you think could build just one? These instruments are ironically causing the pilots to fly blind.

Now, lets say someone has a means (the instrument designers) and a motive (money), all they would need to do is write one bit of base code that every navigation instrument references and no pilot would be any the wiser. Planes run on notoriously outdated software. Don't you find it curios that all planes fly on 50+ year old coding languages?

Curious indeed.

So if there is such a global conspiracy to hide the truth, why?
One explanation sure seems a heck of a lot simpler to me.

Or maybe, just maybe, the earth might be round? Sounds a lot more simpler than keeping at the very least a few ten thousand all over the world in sworn secrecy.

I thought we just established that it wouldn't take "a few ten thousand" to keep the secret???

So if there is such a global conspiracy to hide the truth, why?

Lets take Boeing as an example. They have been secretly downgrading the quality of their product for years and until recently, no one knew. Sure, there was the occasional person who came forward but they were either silenced or labeled a crackpot.

Now, according to Wikipedia, Boeing employs over 170 million people. Do all 170,000,000 plus people need to be sworn secret carriers? Or do you think that the vast, overwhelming majority of them are just people doing their jobs as their boss tells them. Who are in turn doing their jobs as their boss tells them, and so on. It only takes a few people to know the secret and many of them may not even work for the company! Boeing's board of directors appoints a CEO and in many cases they are just the patsy who takes the fall. As is the case with Boeing's CEO Dave Calhoun who is stepping down in light off all the recent issues.

So, now I ask you, do you think every pilot, every ship captain, every single person down to the guy who cleans toilets in the Estonian Air Force need to be sworn to secrecy? Or do you think they are just people doing thier jobs?

One explanation sure seems a heck of a lot simpler to me.

Are you in the path of the solar eclipse?
If not can you get to the path?
I can not I am in Seattle
I Challenge you to get there.

Challenge accepted.

1. After a certain distance, if you stand on land and watch a boat or ship go directly out to sea, it starts to move down, as if there is a curve there. Why is this? It moves downwards until you can't see it at all.

To add to Space Cowgirl's explanation. A wave blocks visibility on the ocean. When a ship is close there are relatively few waves to block it. As a boat moves farther away, there are more waves. The chances of these waves being big enough to block the entire boat go up and up until they approach 100%. Once a boat gets far enough away, the combination of poor visibility and ~90% wave coverage means that the boat appears to move below the horizon.

Flat Earth General / Re: What do luminous moon shrimp eat?
« on: January 18, 2018, 06:00:45 AM »
So, if the flat earth's moon is self illuminated by a population of luminous moon shrimp, then what do luminous moon shrimp eat?

While we're asking retarded questions, what keeps them on the moon if it isn't gravity?

I imagine that the environment of the moon is much like the thermal vents found deep under the ocean.

And how do you come to that conclusion. Don’t you think the absence of water is a minor problem?

I didn't say it was exactly like it in every single imaginable way. Round-earthers have this problem often. If I say that Pepsi is like Coke, I don't mean that Pepsi is 100% exactly like Coke in every conceivable way. I mean that they are similar. I imagine that moon is likely similar to the thermal vent environment on earth in that it's an environment where creatures thrive without any meaningful amount of sunlight.

This is an often asked question that I haven't answered in awhile.  I should be vigilant about the topic but after answering it so many times I suppose I just burnt out.  Anyways, here is the reason for the polar night and day in Antarctica.

As the sun circles above the flat earth it moves closer and further from the North Pole.  This explains the six months of day and night in the north.  To explain the six months of days and nights on the rim is a bit more involved.  As the sun journeys north and south, it also rises and falls so slightly it's nearly unperceivable.  In the North, the sun is at its closest to earth and in the South it's at its furthest.  Now, to explain how the sun can be seen from all of the rim at one time, simply take a look into your coffee cup http://www.plouffe.fr/simon/cercles/circles.html.  Just as light reflects around the entire rim of your drink, so it does around the rim of the earth.  I believe it's the firmament itself that reflects this light but others attribute it to how the light waves interact with aether.

The rules in Q&A are achieving nothing beyond forcing you to move 83% of threads out of the section, and of those that remain, hardly any get answers.

Are these some of the hard-hitting statistics you were referring to?

Also, thank you for your concern and endeavors to lighten our workload, Neal, but if you really want to help then perhaps you could stop generating work for us by following the forum's rules?

It must be nice to be an expert.

Everybody is an expert on something; often a few things. For me, it's non-newtonian fluids, chili con carne, radio wave propagation and superhero roleplaying games.

You're an expert in both non-newtonian fluids and radio wave propagation? That must be quite a CV.

Just as I thought, "brave" is not a word found in the FE lexicon.

I fixed the grammar in that sentence for you. Just another helpful service from your friendly neighborhood flat-earther.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: How do airplanes fly?
« on: January 15, 2018, 09:35:39 AM »
Hello.
I have just read some information on this forum and a question came to my mind. How do planes fly? I mean, if the gravity don't exist, then are they somehow "neglecting" the force that pushes them down? Or it doesn't work on them at all?

I you prescribe to the no-gravity flat-earth model then planes are negating the force from Universal Acceleration that pushed the earth upwards at 9.8 meters per second squared; a perfect substitute for gravity-from-mass that the round earth model speculates.

How do planes do it? I'm just curious.

The wing of a plane is shaped so that when air passes over it, it generates lift thereby converting forward momentum into vertical gain. But I'm not an aerophyscist and this is a bit outside the scope of flat-earth questions and answers. I recommend a YouTube search for a better and likely more accurate explanation.

I'm new to the flat Earth idea and I was wondering if anyone who knows alot about the theory could explain it to me
One of the problems is there multiple, contradictory theories.

How's that Grand Unified Theory of Physics coming along?

Does anyone know of and have references to an instance of someone being fired from a job because of their belief in Flat Earth theory?

If so, does anyone know of and have references to any lawsuits filed because of it?

Flat earthers don't work at jobs where it matters whether or not they were flat earthers. But they do have to put on plastic gloves before making the sandwiches.

That's a misrepresentation. Many flat-earthers have lucrative jobs and one even works for NASA. Someone on the other site is working towards their PhD. To say we are all sandwich makers is not only patently false but an ignorant fabrication.

As for people fired for their beliefs, I don't think it's an issues unless they work somewhere that requires them to parrot round-earth propaganda.

Wow, my mistake.  Right over Antarctica, am I right?

They got you good, Jroa. You may need to take some time and rethink your world views.

On topic though, this is a standard round-earth style of argument. They are demonstrably wrong, yet will never admit it despite the mountains of evidence before them.  It's like the people who believe in dinosaurs. Dinosaur fossils are clearly just carved out of rock like how a sculptor would cut a statue out of marble, yet people still believe this lie hook, line, and sinker.
