It has been brought to my attention that I should file a claim for money BP is giving out to all residence of Louisiana.  The problem with this is that it's for those who were actually affected by the spill.  My father suggested I go down to file the claim so I can get my money from it.  But why?  I was not affected by the spill.  If I were to file a claim and receive money that I do not feel I deserve, I'd be guilty of the same things I complain about.  For instance, those who file for welfare and don't deserve it.  Those who file for disability just so they can sit on their lazy asses.  It seems it would be hypocritical of me to take money I don't deserve.

How much are the people who file getting?  A cook in a restaurant got 9k.  A hotel desk clerk got 34k.  It's certainly tempting.  I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.  If you had the opportunity to file for this money, would you?  How would you justify it?

Is no where near as good as Battlestar Galactica was.  The characters are weak and the story line is loose.  When are they going to develop a new sci-fi worth watching?

Has anyone watched this show?  I think it airs on Investigation Discovery.  It makes me feel like I'm watching a more detailed version of Idiocracy.  These women marry men who are in prison and then complain about how little time they have with their husbands.

The Lounge / How do you tip?
« on: October 02, 2010, 12:33:35 PM »
When you go out to eat and/or drink, how much do you normally tip your server/bartender?

I never tip less than 20%, and if I spend more than $30, I normally leave at least $10.

The Lounge / Status Update (incase anyone cares...which is unlikely)
« on: October 02, 2010, 11:26:22 AM »
I'm now a bartender and am attending LSU with a major in Anthropology.  I've lost 50 pounds and fit into a size 4 jeans for the first time in 6 years.  My husband and I have worked things out and are doing well.  I've managed to submerge my social anxiety and have several new friends I go out to play pool with once a week.  I finished "Around the World" at a restaurant called The Chimes. (Around the world is where you drink 60 beers from around the world from at least 20 different countries.)  It took me 3 months but I pulled it off and now I have a plaque on the wall and a T-Shirt.  Other than that, I've sort of missed some of you guys.   :)

No, seriously.  Is there a way to have a print out done of your text messages?  My phone won't let me email the really long ones to myself and when it does it won't show the sender info.  Anyone know?  Or should I just call the cell phone company?

So, I want to get a new laptop/notebook.  I've picked one out that looks decent but I wanted a few opinions before I just bought it.  A lot of you are more tech savvy than I am.  Would you recommend this laptop?

The Lounge / Nightmares

I've been having a lot of these lately.  I'm not talking about the kind where I'm running from a monster or satan.  I'm talking, disturbing dreams with horrible endings that leave me out of breath when I wake up.  It's really starting to bug me.  I think it's due to stress but this hasn't happened in a long time.

Does anyone else ever have this issue?  Also, what do you think causes the different elements in your dreams?  IE. Lightening storms, fire, death....etc.

The Lounge / Drive-by
« on: July 13, 2009, 07:55:21 AM »
There was a drive-by shooting 2 houses down from mine Saturday night.  At first I assumed it was firecrackers going off because the idiot neighbor's kids think it's funny to blow them up at midnight.  Then flashing blue lights were all around outside.  I was suspicous but since it's illegal to use fireworks in my city I wondered if that was the case.  Well...there's definite bullet holes in my neighbor's van.  Good fucking times.

So...I've decided I'm going back to school.  I'm tired of sitting at a desk everyday hating my job and wasting time not doing what I would enjoy.  So, I'm going to go to a 2 year college to get all my required classes out of the way.  Then I will attend a university and major in cultrual anthropology with a minor in history.  Then I plan to get my masters...then a PHD.  10 years of school YAY!!!

This is the thread I have created to continue an Bogs and I were having in "Post an image of yourself!"

Quote
It meant that I do not approve of the inherent, learned desire of women to judge their worth purely by the attention they receive for their body, as it is atrocious and shameful behavior.

I found this to be insulting.  If you were not referring to me, then you should have made that clear.

Ah.  That part specifically was somewhat in response to this comment you made:
That's so sweet of you..... :-\
which I did not appreciate since you implied that you want all men to be raving wolves after you, which I found to be most offensive.

[edit]
I think he was talking about inner beauty being more valuable than outer beauty. Which is really a compliment, because you have both.
Someone needs to break that down then because I did not see a compliment in there.  Apparently, I didn't pick up on the context clues.

Inner beauty, in essence, "personality, brilliance of being, etc."  Intellectualism and individuality is more refreshing than the dull plasticity often marked by desperation.  Plus, there is no thrill to something that isn't even a challenge, and I like to think I earn my "kills," so to speak.
Apparently you have a lot to learn about women.  You don't need to tell me I'm pretty or rave over me.  I don't require your attention.  But I don't want to be outright told that I'm nothing to rave about and that you don't understand why other people are.  That's just flat out mean.  It's called tact; you should look it up.
BAAAAAAAWWWW!

Quote from: Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451
"Now let's take up the minorities in our civilization, shall we?  Bigger the population, the more minorities.  Don't step on the toes of the dog lovers, the cat lovers, doctors, lawyers, merchants, chiefs, Mormons, Baptists, Unitarians, second-generation Chinese, Swedes, Italians, Germans, Texans, Brooklynites, Irishmen, people from Oregon or Mexico.  The people in this book, this play, this TV serial are not meant to represent any actual painters, cartographers, mechanics anywhere.  The bigger your market, Montag, the less you handle controversy, remember that!  All the minor minor minorities with their navels to be kept clean.  Authors, full of evil thoughts, lock up your typewriters.  They did.  Magazines became a nice blend of vanilla tapioca.  Books, so the damned snobbish critics said, were dishwater.  No wonder books stopped selling, the critics said.  But the public, knowing what it wanted, spinning happily, let the comic books survive.  And the three-dimensional sex magazines, of course.  There you have it, Montag.  It didn't come from the Government down.  There was no dictum, no declaration, no censorship, to start with, no!  Technology, mass exploitation, and minority pressure carried the trick, thank God.  Today, thanks to them, you can stay happy all the time, you are allowed to read comic, the good old confessions, or trade journals."

The Lounge / Communication Between Men and Women
« on: June 22, 2009, 09:35:39 AM »
Well, it's the age old question of why men and women can't seem to understand one another.  No, I'm not "bawwing" about not being able to understand men.  I would just like to better understand them.  So...I'm making this thread so we can get an idea about what the hell is going on in eachother's minds.

So I'll start off with a simple question.  Why is it so hard for you guys to let us know what's going on?  Instead of saying, "I'm not interested."  or "I don't think this will work out", you ignore us.  Is ignoring us your version of saying, "I don't really want to be involved"?  Or is it only sometimes when you're not interested and other times there is another reason?

And, please, feel free to post whatever questions you have for the opposite sex.

Hey guys.  My sister is turning 21 this weekend and I'd like to do something fun with her.  All I can come up with is go out to a bar or hit up a casino.  I'm not certain, though.  We're also a little tight on money so I'd like to keep it cheap.  Any ideas?

I wish they would hurry up with the release.  The characters look awesome so far.

Also, I'd love to see this character.

Quote
A fourth playable character, Sazh Katzroy (サッズ・カッツロイ ,Sazzu Kattsuroi?), was first featured in V-Jump Magazine. He is a middle-aged man with an afro who Lightning knows from her time serving in the military. Sazh wields dual pistols, his strong point is striking enemies from a distance. He is a good combination with the close-range Lightning. He has a baby chocobo as a pet that appears to live in his afro. He is described as a middle-aged man with good judgment and moral discernment. He has a gentle personality and is easily moved to tears, and joins the party early in the game.[23] His voice-actor in the Japanese version is Masashi Ebara.

Has anyone been watching the "Battles BC" series?  It makes all those heroes from the Old Testement seem worse than Osama Bin Laden.  :-\

For instance:  Joshua takes over Jericho which has little to no chance against him in the first place.  They murder every man, woman and child.  Makes you wonder why Christianity is viewed as a peaceful religion.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Ancient Astronauts
« on: April 13, 2009, 12:24:20 PM »
Did anyone watch this on the History Channel last night?  It was really interesting and I was unable to be completely skeptical of their theories.  Basically, they're saying we were visited by intelligent beings from another planet thousands of years ago.  Their evidence lies in literature, drawings, carvings and even the ancient structures believed to have been built by man (ie. The Pyramids).  Any thoughts?

Philosophy, Religion & Society / If tomorrow was the end
« on: March 05, 2009, 07:38:39 AM »
What would you do?  Say that you know for certain that tomorrow you will die.  What would your reaction be?  Would you spend it with family or friends?  Maybe you'd go wild and party the night away, sleeping with whoever crosses your path.  Maybe you'd pray to your god(s) and make peace with them to ensure a spot in heaven.

Personally, this is a tough question for me.  Since one day isn't long enough to see my entire family, I'd probably spend it with my immediate family.  I'd also call everyone I care about and say my goodbyes.  I most likely would do everything I could not to fall asleep so there'd be plenty of energy drinks involved.
