Flat Earth Q&A / TheEngineer Is A Liar
« on: September 07, 2006, 09:51:56 AM »
I know its not impossible. But If I was trying to prove something as radical as the earth being flat I would get a picture/video of it MYSELF. No-one could censor that. Like i said:

"if the Earth is flat then it shouldn't be hard to get a photo of it, right?"

'Seals are unexplainably good with balls. There are no balls in thier natural habitat. Why, when a ball is thrown to a seal, how does it  know that it can balance it on its nose?'  - LiamH 7/9/06

Ok then, if the Earth is flat then it shouldn't be hard to get a photo of it, right?  If I go on google image search and type in 'Round Earth' or just 'Earth' I get plenty of pics of a ROUND earth. If I type in 'Flat Earth' and it comes up with some funny little cartoons of earth on a turtles back and other junk like that. I do the same with other well known search engines and get the same result.

Fair enough if this was my only point you could answer with the 'Conspiracy' line. But theres more..

So after my search comes up with no results for a 'Flat Earth' I post a request on the 'The Flat Earth Society' forum for a picture of it. Result - Nothing. I check around other posts/threads/topics  and find that loads of people have asked for a picture of the 'Flat Earth' and no luck.

If you met one in person. I think you would.
It takes a huge nerd with loads of spare time would argue that the earth is flat. Any normal person would accept the truth and have better things to do.

Just to clarify for you: gravity = acceleration = gravity.  The two are locally indistinguishable.

Thanks - all that stuff has been answered by some other dude. But I knowIt won't be the end of the arguement.

Each side has there reasons why thier theory is correct. Each member of each side should know thier arguements and thier answers to questions asked by the opposite side.

An inbetween would back both theorys, and would hence be constantly contradicting themselves.

I belive the term you are looking for is 'Neutral' - somebody who is neither for or against each sides theory.

TheEngineer has never backed the Round Earth theory and replies using evidence that backs the Flat earth theory. This should logically place him in the 'Flat Earth' side.

This forum is where the flat earthers argue with the round earthers to try and prove which theory is correct. Neither will ever accept the others theory. No matter how much evidence is presented. There are numerous arguements on numerous subjects with different people everyday. Sure, certain questions are asked on a regular basis. But have you ever thought why? Looking back at other posts a conclusion in never found. This is because the answers bring up more questions and a satisfactory answer is never recieved. This is why the questions are repeated. We are simply trying to complete the chain-

Question - Answer

You have had really bad luck with pilots, always in the clouds?  Damn, they must be aiming for them.

In the sky there are clouds. Go up high enough and there are clouds all around. Only from a very high place should you be able to accurately view the Earth below and search the horizon for a curve.

From any lower and you will be looking at 'Hills' or 'Mountains' - not the curve

Are you a 'Flat Earther' or a 'Round Earther'?
There is no inbetween.

Does he? I was not aware of this.

Well, let me put it this way - go back to the first page of this thread/topic and read his responses to my posts. He answers my questions with answers that back up the 'Flat Earth' theory. If he believed the Earth was round then he would have kept quiet. No self-respecting 'Round Earther' would support the opposing side beliefs.

So, tell me now - does he back 'Flat Earth'or 'Round Earth'

But if you are a flat earther

I never said he was. Nowhere in his post does he say that he is one neither mention a 'Flat Earth'.

Over the past week I've spent about 15 hours on various airplanes -- the ground did not look like a ball or an orange or any other obviously-curved object to me.

I myself have been on a plane loads of times and by the time we reach a decent altitude with which to attempt to judge the shape of the Earth below in any way, we are in clouds - making it impossible to see.

The ground would not look like an ball from the height your average plane reaches. You may have been able to see a slight curve far, far away in the distance. But if you are a flat earther or just go with thier theories then you would have dismissed any curve you did see and put it down to water vapour or some  kind of illusion.

As for the Photo taken from a plane/balloon, all pictures showing a curve/round earth are quickly dissmissed by Flat Earthers. They have various reasons why such images are not valid as evidence. If so, why doesn't one of you even attempt to post a picture of a 'Flat Earth' ?(Not a drawing-i've seen them and they're rubbish). If you where even attempting to hold up your side of the arguement then one of you should have made one by now. It would be easily identified as a fake by all who see it, but show some willing and try.  :D

If the only data available to me on which to judge the shape of the Earth were your statements and TheEngineer's, I should instantly be more-or-less convinced the Earth was flat. The idea of a Flat-Earth is so preposterous that I find it incredibly shameful when an REer cannot even summon a correct argument against it. Your statements show you to not even have a junior-highschool understanding of science.

I just post ideas/theories that come into my head at the time some are rubbish and don't follow any scientific explanation. Its only fun anyway.
But look at all the other posts in this forum. Loads of People have posted undeniable proof the Earth is round and the Flat Earthers still find some way of avoiding it.

*Your post has alot of words, yet it lacks Substance*

Sometimes they pick at tiny parts of your post any do not answer your questions.

They also say that there is already a thread about yout topic and tell you to use 'SEARCH'. However there are thousands of posts and threads on this site and searching for a specific one is like trying to find a condom machine in the Vatican - Hopeless!

I dont get why you think it would have been funnier without it. Its basically just saying he thinks the earth is flat, which he does.

Anybody who tries to reuse that form of joke in anyway in this forum will be branded a NOOB - think of your own material to use.

My statement about the whole object thing was stupid, I know. I was trying to think of things through a Flat Earthers view and screwed up my explanation of gravity & stuff. But seriously -if the earth accelerates up to an object every time something is dropped then loads of wierd stuff should happen.

(Does the earth then return to its original positon, after accelerating upwards?)

According to flat earthers an aeroplane generates lift that stops the earth rising up to it. I hope I am right in saying that the air surrounding the earth is not affected and does not accelerate up along with the earth.

Supposing that the above is correct, when in a plane (above ground) the following should happen.

1) As the air surrounding the plane is not affected by the upwards acceleration of the earth - when looking down at the earth it should constantly move up (and then back down?) below you. I have been on a plane many times and I can swear I have never seen this.

If you suggest that 'The air surrounding the earth does accelerate upwards with the earth' Then you will need to explain why.

Air is not solid and changes shape to accommodate/fill the area it occupies.

Well, when I hold something in my hand and let go of it, the earth accelerates up to it.

If I am in a plane (In the air) at the time the above statement it tested. My altitude should decrease, and I should be closer to the ground.

Why does the Earth not accelerate up to Aircraft?

How does it know to accelerate up to the heavier object first if the two are dropped at exactly the same time?

I have seen this picture used often to show how the 'Flat Earth' should look.
My problem - The position of the sun clearly shows that all the continents should be recieving sunlight. However, you cannot deny the truth that while some continents have day others have night. (Hope you understand what I mean)

Dear 'TheEngineer'

You seem have come up with some kind of explanation for MOST of my post, however you have not commented on the following

"The Greek philosopher Aristotle provided two more reasons why the Earth was round. First, he noted that Earth’s shadow always took a circular bite out of the moon during a lunar eclipse, which would only be possible with a spherical Earth. (If the Earth were a disk, its shadow would appear as an elongated ellipse at least during part of the eclipse.) Second, Aristotle knew that people who journeyed north saw the North Star ascend higher in the sky, while those heading south saw the North Star sink. On a flat Earth, the positions of the stars wouldn’t vary with a person’s location. "

Ok, heres my new post. I will ask things that are simple to answer.

1) Do you have ANY proof backing your belief/theory that the Earth is flat?

Valid proof may include a picture of the 'Flat Earth'

Some proof that the Earth is round -
For instance, when a sailing ship heads into port, the first part that becomes visible is the crow’s-nest, followed by the sails, and then the bow of the ship. If the Earth were flat, the entire ship would come into view at once as soon as it came close enough to shore.

The Greek philosopher Aristotle provided two more reasons why the Earth was round.

2) Why would anybody go through the trouble to hide the fact the Earth is flat?

3) Do you have any explanation for Volcanoes?

It has been accepted that at the centre of the Earth is the 'Core'.

core/kɔr, koʊr/ [kawr, kohr] noun, the central, innermost, or most essential part of anything.

"The inner part of the earth is the core. This part of the earth is about 1,800 miles (2,900 km) below the earth's surface. The core is a dense ball of the elements iron and nickel. It is divided into two layers, the inner core and the outer core. The inner core - the center of earth - is solid and about 780 miles (1,250 km) thick. The outer core is so hot that the metal is always molten, but the inner core pressures are so great that it cannot melt, even though temperatures there reach 6700ºF (3700ºC). The outer core is about 1370 miles (2,200 km) thick."

The 'Flat Earth' belief/theory seems to have no explanation for the core, yet, it cannot be denied that it exists - Volcanoes are 100% proof.

"The outer layer of the earth has some weak spots and cracks in it. When the magma in the mantle pushes finds those weak spots, it pokes through, forming a volcano."

The Earth is Round, the people who argue it is flat just want to be different and are trying to stand out from the norm.

However, it is still fun to argue with them. They never give you a straight answer. When you ask them for proof that the Earth is flat, that 'Humble Scientist' guy pops up with his Oxford Dictionary and 'The idiots guide to avoiding questions'. He then answers with the typical rubbish you would expect to get from a bad mix of Aristotle, Plato, Socrates, Shakespeare, Einstiein, Newton, Hitler, Scooby Doo, and Stewie (from Family Guy).
