I eyed the Laphroaig Quarter Cask in the liqour store today, but decided that 56 euros was too much, so I had a look at the 10 year old variety which was about 10 euros less but read on the label that it's very smoky, and apparently more smokey than the quarter cask even, and I'm not much of a peat-head. So instead I decided to go for a less intimidating looking Speyburn 10 year old Highland single malt for 16 euros less.
Could be worse, but it reminds me slightly of the Glenn Parker I had once which I eventually poured down the sink. But it's nowhere near as bad. In fact, it reminds me of every cheap Scotch Whisky I've had, which is pretty much every Scotch Whisky I've had, apart from the sample bottle of 10 year old Talisker which tasted only like liquid smoke.
And since I'm no expert, I can't really put to words what I find in the taste, but from my limited whisk(e)y experience, I'd have to rate Speyburn 10 year old with 6/10.
