What is your favorite Alcoholic beverage of choice? For me it's beer or rum. I don't mess with that colored mixed drink bullshit you ladies prefer. Rum and coke is as close as I get to that.

100% agree. :)

Just drink scotch like a normal person
Why would I drink something which is clearly inferior to Irish Whiskey?

Drinking some mead. Only 0,7% alcohol though so doesn't really count I guess. Tastes good though.

The last mead I made was around 14% at the end.  I don't consider what you drank as being mead.  It is a mead flavored drink.

I've been considering having a go at making my own mead or beer. The thing holding me back is getting all the equipment.

Mead is easy.  Beer is only slight harder.  If you really want to start out easy, make wine.  Just buy some juice, preferably 100% from fruits, and add yeast to it.  Baking yeast works, but wine yeast is better.  Put the cap on, then loosen it a quarter turn.  Put it in a cool dark place for 2 weeks, and you have wine.

I'm a homebrewer on the side and like to experiment with basic ale recipes. Anyone else a homebrewer out here? I do mostly strong pales and some IPA's. Seasonally I will do a nice chocolate oatmeal stout and my much sought after apple cider. Friends love this one. I am willing to share the recipe if anyone is interested.  ;D

I eyed the Laphroaig Quarter Cask in the liqour store today, but decided that 56 euros was too much, so I had a look at the 10 year old variety which was about 10 euros less but read on the label that it's very smoky, and apparently more smokey than the quarter cask even, and I'm not much of a peat-head. So instead I decided to go for a less intimidating looking Speyburn 10 year old Highland single malt for 16 euros less.

Could be worse, but it reminds me slightly of the Glenn Parker I had once which I eventually poured down the sink. But it's nowhere near as bad. In fact, it reminds me of every cheap Scotch Whisky I've had, which is pretty much every Scotch Whisky I've had, apart from the sample bottle of 10 year old Talisker which tasted only like liquid smoke.
And since I'm no expert, I can't really put to words what I find in the taste, but from my limited whisk(e)y experience, I'd have to rate Speyburn 10 year old with 6/10.

Just had my first glass of Connemara peated single malt Irish Whiskey.

Peated indeed, strangely enough for an Irish whiskey. Although not as heavily peated as Talisker, from what I recall, which I by the way didn't like much. I actually enjoy this one though, and I could very well get more used to peated whiskies from drinking this.
I'll probably try out a peated scotch next time.
8/10

By the way, I think I should change my rating of the Speyburn 10yo from 6/10 to 8/10. I enjoyed it a lot more later on.

Now having my first glass of Sailor Jerry spiced rum, which also happens to be my first glass of rum ever, and it's a lot better than I expected. I smelled it at first and thought this won't be good, but the taste reminds me of bourbon and sweet candy.
Perhaps a bit too sweet for my taste, but it's not bad, except for the smell which is way too heavy and sweet and reminds me of sweet Liqueur. I've had worse whiskey than this.

6/10

Now drinking Lauder's blended Scotch whisky. Tastes pretty much like every other blended scotch I've had. Not much to say.
I added a few drops of Connemare single malt Irish whiskey to the glass, and it actually got better.

Without Connemara: 5-6/10
With Connemara: 7/10

What a bourbonfag I used to be. Having some now again, and it's super great. They don't sell the 18yo variety here, but I reccon it would be way too expensive for anyway.
