I am going to challenge you...
« on: June 09, 2008, 10:02:22 AM »
and I am going to win.

Ask me any question regarding a round earth and I will post my response.

I will own you so hard that your past generation will feel the blow.

What is the mechanism for gravity?

We don't really know.  By which I mean that General Relativity works extremelly well, but it could be supplanted in the future by a a better theory w/ a different mechanism.

Any other questions.

Scientific Knowledge is mostly always tentative.

You don't usually say that that theory is "true" you just say that it fits the observations better than any other theory that you happen to have.  This is especially true for physics.

Ask me any question regarding a round earth and I will post my response.

I will own you so hard that your past generation will feel the blow.
Given any (not specifically, but generally) 3+ celestial bodies, one of which you are on, all of which effect each other, predict the motions of them using RE theory.

Not the best one ive ever seen, but it demonstrates it

http://home.jesus.ox.ac.uk/~dacheson/1089comp.html
download the 3 body problem program and run it (if it doesnt work try running it through dosbox or similar) it takes a while to do much, but it demonstrates the motion.

Both of those fail miserably, due to:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_theory

The whole General Relativity mass-bending space thing works rather well (not like I know the details or anything) but we don't know if it's the truth, we only know that it is an excellent approximation to the truth.

Sure, one never knows.  But weak forces and their siblings can be hammered away at from every angle, every day.

Similarly, I have a pretty good mechanism for the pseudo force caused by acceleration.  It is very easy to observe and explore.

Nope.  But gravity has been very, very well studied.

Here's an example:

 http://www.mpa-garching.mpg.de/Lenses/WLRevEls.pdf

There are thousands and thousands of others.  They confirm Einstein's account w/ an amazing amout of precision.

That is based on RE distance and masses, for objects we do not agree on.

Unlike electroweak which I can see in my hands.

Yup.  You'll notice that it's (yet another) confirmation of RE.

And you can see gravity close up.  You can drop shit, and if you want to you could buy a gravimeter.

I do notice that when I drop shit, it behaves in every way, shape, and form exactly the same as when I accelerate shit.  And accelerating shit is about as well studied and observed as anything gets.
