Why is the government so obsessed with trying to keep us from knowing earth is supposedly flat?

Reasons are unknown, however it is apparently for monetary gain

(I know, makes no sense to me either...)

"Um, Mr. President, how do you suggest we make money?"

"Ooh! Ooh! We will pretend that the world is a sphere!"

"Genius..."

So there is now a pointless worldwide conspiracy as apposed to a goal-oriented conspiracy. This keeps getting better and better.

No, a newcomer posted a satirical expose and destroyed FET.

You people are all crazy.  Everyone knows there isn't an icewall.  There is actually an aluminum no-rust fence surrounding all of us.  Of course, if you slip in between the bars, you'll fall off the flat earth.  Dumb asses.  ::)

"Which neatly brings me to my next point." Tom said "NASA, ESA, the Argentine Space Agency, the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, The Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization, The Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy, etcetera, etcetera are all lies, dedicated in a mix of covert military research, producing fake space videos and pictures, faking rocket launches and, most importantly, lining the pockets of the creators.

"'What could be gained from lying about the earth?' you say? Space travel is impossible because it would require infinite energy to keep it accelerating against the UA. When NASA realised this, they had 2 choices, either admit to billions of US dollars wasted into a fruitless research or save face and fake it, investing the government grants into secret military endeavors and advanced image manipulation technology. As well as making a hefty profit. Soon, other 'space agencies' joined the scam.

"Could it be done? Of course, only a few people need ever know about the biggest deception in the history of mankind..."

Actually....

Provided that "gravity" is 9.8 m/s2, and one's space shuttle has a mass of 2,029,203 kg, then it would require approximately 1.109649x1024 J of work energy to escape earth's atmosphere. ;D

Please note that nowhere in the above post do I factor in diminishing return.
Look you ugly son of a bitch, making up observations and unfounded suppositions is exactly what the Flat Earth Society is against.

Point being that the profit to be gained is from the money supposedly going to NASA.  Since space travel is (nearly) impossible in FE, there isn't a cent going into NASA.

The point is, on RE you do escape Earth's main gravity well, whereas on FE, the Earth is accelerating towards you no matter how far away you get, therefore EXTENDED (ie, longer than it takes to burn up the booster rockets) Space travel is impossible

If one were to launch one's spacecraft such that it went over the ice wall, then one could go wherever the hell one wanted, other than back to earth (but could still communicate via radio signals).

You mean, over the wall and into space?
The illusion is shattered if we ask what goes on behind the scenes.

As an REer, I disagree. Sorry.

With the stellar objects only 3100 miles above the FE and only directly over it, you wouldn't have anything to bounce the signals off once you drop over the edge. (I assume that you weren't planning on using a guide-wire since you did say "radio  signals".)

Also, on a technical note, I don't know that FEers call the area beyond the Ice Wall or lower than the surface of the FE "space". It's unseen and unmeasured, so they don't have any idea about its density.

Tom says after the ice wall you just have a bunch of ice and crap going out to infinity. So it won't work anyway in FE.
