I think weather-based is included in earth-based (assuming a day after tomorrow style event isn't triggered by an asteroid strike or somesuch)

that begs the question "what did humans evlove from?" at what point did some ape stop being that ape and became the modern human, we may never know. but surely evolution was apart of the process and is still in progress.

We could very well turn into something else. Our problem is that we can keep unfit people alive. No real natural selection is occurring. Eventually we will become a new species though.
