Philosophy, Religion & Society / What happens when Trump loses 2020?
« on: March 04, 2019, 01:44:58 AM »
I guess, since he is a bad loser, he will at least claim that the election is rigged, that millions of illegal immigrants voted for Democrats and that the US is going to become a communist dictatorship without him.

But it seems, when he loses his immunity there is a good chance that he gets indicted, possibly immediately after leaving office. So he will do everything he can to stay in office. What when he refuses to leave? He could try to incite violence. Allegedly 70-90% of all private weapons in the US are owned by Republicans. How would his cult followers react? Would the party abandon him in such an event? How would Republicans in the FBI, the CIA and the military respond? Or Republican governors? And when he has declared a state of emergency before, that is still valid, how would that influence the situation and the possibilities he has?

Did Isaac Newton, NASA and possibly Hillary Clinton deceive the world about kinetic energy?

I have a problem again.

When I want to accelerate an object from 0 to 2 km/s I need 2 Megajoule of energy per kg, because

Now I want to accelerate the same object by another 2 km/s, so I have to use another 2 Megajoule per kg.

Now the object has a velocity of 4 km/s.

I have invested 4 Megajoule per kg.

The object, having a velocity of 4 km/s, has a kinetic energy of 8 Megajoule per kg, according to the formula.

So I have used up 4 Megajoule per kg, but I got 8 Megajoule out of it.

How is that possible?

You are so screwed.

What is the Democrats' strategy here? Let us surrender totally so that we can go home and resist? Wouldn't getting a win against Shithead and his swamp monsters be a decent campaign strategy?

What kind of opposition party is that? This administration is a joke, you do do not make deals in such a case. You cut them into pieces, swallow them, flush the toilet and move on.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Climate change update
« on: August 27, 2018, 10:28:53 AM »
I am not sure if anybody has realized that in recent years something quite spectacular has been going on with our climate, because the media are all busy with reporting the US/Saudi genocide in Yemen...

Wait, no, they never mention it. They have been busy with Stormy Daniels and if Omarosa has tapes of Trump saying the N-word.

Anyway, next winter in the Northern hemisphere will become fricking cold again, not just like wintery cold, but like really Arctic cold. And next summer we will get the heatwaves, droughts and wildfires we are already used to.

What has happened? It's the Arctic jet streams. They have circled around the north pole for thousands of years - but now they are gone. They actually are not really gone, they are just not where they used to be, and they are much weaker now than they were during the whole Holocene.

That means that in summer huge masses of warm air enters the Arctic like monsoons. Yes, that's right, Arctic monsoons are a thing now. Such weather patterns must have been common in previous geological periods, when the Arctic was ice-free, but they have not been around for millions of years. Well, they are back. Say hello to the Pliocene!

In winter on the other hand, the jet streams used to act like a wall keeping Arctic winds from entering deep into the south. The wall is not there anymore, nada, as if it never existed, like Trump's southern border wall, because nobody wanted to pay for it. So Arctic winter air is free to reach low latitudes, and even if the polar regions are warming rapidly, it is still the Arctic, so it will get cold.

It cannot be overemphasized what a fundamental change that is. Climate scientists expected it - but not so early, not with a temperature rise of barely 1°C. The polar ice caps have been the planet's thermostat, we cannot even fathom what it's loss means for human civilization. We had a relatively stable climate since the dawn of civilization, it was the prerequisite of our success and prosperity. Now we have the opposite of that and the extremes of the last years were just a pretaste of what is going to come. We ain't seen nothing yet. The most dangerous thing is not even sea level rise, that's something we can adapt to, if it does not happen too fast. The dangerous thing are those hundred year droughts and hundred year floods we experience every few years now. It is not accidental that the most climate sensitive regions, like Middle East, east Africa or Central America, are the politically most unstable ones. Syria for example experienced unprecedented droughts and crop failures between 2006 and 2011 and that certainly played a role in the outbreak of the civil war.

Climate change has entered its second phase and some regions of the world will now seriously start becoming uninhabitable. I hope you all like refugees because during the next decade there will be lots of them.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Does NASA lie about chimneys?
« on: August 02, 2018, 09:26:41 AM »
I recently came across the chimney effect. You know, the physical principle that assures that hot air goes through a chimney. How fast it does that can be calculated by this formula:

Q: flow rate
A: flow area
C: a cranky coefficient being 0.65-0.70 for some reason
g: gravitational acceleration 9.81 m/s2, but I use 10 in this post
h: height of the chimney
Ti: Temperature at the lower end ("inside") in K
To: Temperature at the upper end ("outside") in K

In the following calculations I skip A, so I get the wind speed v instead of the flow rate Q.

For example: when Ti is 1000 K (fire) and To is 300 K and the height of your chimney is 10 m with C=0.7 you get v=8.3m/s

When I build a really huge chimney, let us say 15 km, in Malaysia (this time I make no fire) surface temperature Ti may be 300 K and To may be as low as 200 K.
In this case v=221m/s. That's a hell of a hurricane.

When I build the chimney 100 km high To may fall to frigid 100 K (I looked that up). In this case v=808.3 m/s. That's more than double the speed of sound. Since the value of g has already dropped slightly at that height (must be something like 9.5 m/s2 at that point) the real value is a tiny bit less.

That seems unrealistic. Shouldn't earth's gravity slow the air in the chimney down? If so, why does the conspiracy suppress the real formula?

Why do they like Trump in all those shit hole countries?

I just searched for refugees per capita. The most comprehensive list was in wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_refugee_population

The US is way behind most other developed countries (except Greece, Hungary and a few others), way behind Malaysia, Turkey, Iran, Thailand and a whole bunch of third world countries. In fact the US are closer to the bottom of the list than to the top.

The US is one of the main causes of refugee crises, but one of the most reluctant to let people in. Yet it seems the American public believes the exact opposite.

Earth's atmosphere has a mass of 5.15 x 10^21 g.
Air has a heat capacity of 1 J/gK.
That means you need 5.15 x 10^21 J to heat the whole atmosphere 1 K. That's 5.15 Exajoule (EJ).
Annual world energy consumption is approximately 500 EJ. Most of it, due to principal restrictions of thermal engines, is produced as heat, so actually annual heat production must be much more than that. So how come we haven't turned earth's atmosphere into a furnace yet?

According to Newton's laws the formula for the gravitational pull of the sun per unit mass at a given distance of the sun is

g=G(M/r²),

where

g - local gravitational force of the sun
G - gravitational constant
M - mass of Sun
r - distance from Sun

At a distance of 1 AU; how strong is this force?

G=6.67428×10^-11 N(m/kg)²
M=1.9891×10^30 kg
r=1 AU=149.60×10^9 m

I get the result: 0.0001331646672 m/s^-1 or N/kg, rounded:

0.133 mN/kg

On the other hand the acceleration due to gravity on the "surface" of the sun is 273.7 m/s-1. Surface here is defined as the outer edge of the photosphere.

The radius of the sun is 696,000,000 Meter.

The radius of earth's orbit is 150,000,000,000 Meter.

That is bigger by a factor of 215.517241379.

So the gravitational pull of the sun at 1 AU distance should be:

273.7 / (212.643678161)^2 = 0.00589265152, rounded:

5.893 mN/kg.

Obviously 5.893 is different than 0.133.

What is wrong and why?

EDIT: The problem is solved, both methods work out. It is 5.9 mN/kg.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Dyson–Harrop satellites
« on: April 24, 2018, 06:18:02 PM »
I recently posted that on a science forum, but nobody answered.  >:(

So I try it here as the logical alternative.

Since our planet is screwed (earth is a planet actually), I am going to build an O'Neill colony somewhere in the solar system and was looking for a reliable power supply. So I came across this one:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyson%E2%80%93Harrop_satellite

http://large.stanford.edu/courses/2010/ph240/sokolowsky2/

https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn19497-out-of-this-world-proposal-for-solar-wind-power/

I have no reason to trust my judgement too much when it comes to physics stuff, but my problems here are the following:

1. It seems that it has nothing to do with Freeman Dyson, so why did they put his name on it?

2. The density of the solar wind at 1 AU is 5 particles per cm3 and their velocity on average about 500 km/s. I calculate an energy flux in the order of nano Watts /m2. So how can a relatively small devise as described in the links yield Megawatts of energy?

3. "A satellite with the same-sized receiver at the same distance from the sun but with a 1-kilometre-long wire and a sail 8400 kilometers wide could generate roughly 1 billion billion gigawatts (10^27 watts) of power, “which is actually 100 billion times the power humanity currently requires”, says researcher Brooks Harrop, a physicist at Washington State University in Pullman who designed the satellite." That's about 3 times more than the entire energy output of the sun, which is 3.8x10^26 watts . See my problem?

Any thoughts on that? Jack Black? Rabinoz

Philosophy, Religion & Society / The Flat Prophecy
« on: August 31, 2017, 02:59:43 PM »
Few people know that I have a bone oracle that allows me to see into the future.

And I saw the next presidential election. Trump was not there. There was a man, a Republican, whom I did not know. He spoke like Trump, but he was younger than Trump, and he spoke with passion and persuasiveness and he denounced the establishment and its corruption and the people followed him. And he promised healthcare for all and tax cuts for everybody and jobs. And he promised to end the wars and to deport the illegal immigrants and the Muslims. He spoke about Christian values and he said: "America is the nation of God". And he crushed his Republican opponents.

Then I saw the primary of the Democrats. Bernie Sanders was not there, nor was Hillary Clinton. I saw Marc Zuckerberg, Dwayne Johnson and Elisabeth Warren, but they quickly withdrew. Then I saw Kamala Harris, at first she led the votes, but she got defeated by Al Franken.

And then I saw the main election and at that time there was a terror attack. Many people died and Al Franken got defeated by the Republican candidate.

And he started a great war in the middle east and he persecuted his enemies. Many were deported, many came into private prisons. He cut taxes for the rich. He did away with bank regulations and environmental protection. He started a war on science and Intelligent Design was taught at school. Criticizing the government was equal to treason.

Then the economy collapsed. Millions lost their job. The government could not pay their employees. There was violence in the streets.

And out of the chaos a new man came into power, I do not know how, a Republican. And he denounced the establishment and its corruption and he spoke about a great conspiracy as the root of all problems in the world and the people believed him. He promised healthcare for all and tax cuts and jobs for everybody. And he promised to end the wars and to deliver the country from all evil.

He persecuted his enemies and started a war on science. Flat Earth Theory had to be taught in school. NASA was dissolved, its employees were arrested. In great show trials astronauts confessed that they had never been in space. All efforts were made to protect the nation from moonlight and penguins.

The next events are too dim. I only know, Florida was underwater.

That's all.
