Separate players for offense and defence.  Not separate teams.

A football "team" is one organization.  This organization is separated into smaller groups, which play different positions, which is separated into sub-categories (offense, defence, and special teams).  It's like the army; you've got riflemen, snipers, demolition experts and minesweepers, but they're all a part of one army.

In smaller forms of the sport (ones that aren't in mass media) you can see people playing on both offense and defence.

I can't remember for college teams, but highschool teams in the US aren't allowed to have separate 'teams' for offense and defense.

But, when it switches from offense to defence, is every player on the field replaced?

I play it like that too...you come home with huge welts and bruises, and you can't move for a few days...but it's nice.

That's right. That's the only way to play.

Pro players use all that padding for safety so no lawsuits take place.

The only football I ever liked was XFL.  I really don't know why it got shut down, it was actually pretty entertaining.

No lawsuits? God Bless America

Blokes out here would never sue the league because they got injured. How ridiculous.

I'm probably on pretty firm epistemological grounds when I say that you didn't 'know' the Colts would win.  But now I'm just being technical.

Rugby League is clearly a tougher sport than NFL. Our guys don't need wussy safety gear, and don't sue if they get hurt. They have to run further, our big guys are fitter; they are more skillful, and more entertaining.

To prove a point, the NFL is where our AFL players go to retire to a nice punting job. And AFL is much wussier than Rugby League.

I thought it was last weekend, frankly.  Until later last week when everyone started actually talking about it.  *shrug*

I don't follow sports much.
