By rates of LTC -> BTC do you mean money? Btc-e.com is probably the best site to sell LTC on. They have prices listed for both.

Thanks. What about the first question I had? Can this be done on OS X the way you have it setup?

2x 7970's are running, but with much lower Kh/s than I anticipated (1100 Kh/s). I found out the GHz edition 7970s aren't all that great at mining unfortunately. The upside is they run a lot cooler than these other 7970's I'm seeing, with the one that has the most constricted airflow (fans almost bump against other 7970) running at 73C and the other with better airflow at 64C. I don't have enough data to say how many Litecoins I am getting per day, but a rough average would be 0.1 LTC every 45 or so minutes, a lot more than I expected, really.

I've tried overclock and intensity figures, overclocking them seems to actually make them worse and modifying intensity above or below 13 also makes them worse. The GHz edition apparently doesn't respond to clock and configuration changes as well as the stock 7970 does.

Please give me an analogous comparison to 'illegally mined' in terms of regular currency.

You had an excavator in your backyard you used to play dig-dug games with, someone started using your game-excavator to mine gold when you weren't using it and you didn't notice for quite a while. The same guy that would steal yours stole everyone else's excavators, too. Now you're all mad because he used your stuff to dig up gold. The excavators weren't counterfeiting gold, just finding gold that was already there.

You were running on a treadmill to get buff and finally seduce rooster. I hooked your treadmill up with a(n unrealistically efficient) power generator without your knowledge or permission, and sold the energy you've produced to Power4Gold for cold hard cash.

You were employed to work at my company, and agreed to work for $25/hr. The payroll clerk, hoping that none of the employees would notice made up a bogus tax and put it on everyone's pay stub, reducing your $25/hr to an effective $20/hr. They would then take that difference and deposit it into their own account.
I don't know what you're implying, but you're probably wrong.

That's tax fraud. Its not the same as 'illegal mining' of bitcoins which is equivalent to counterfeiting - generating new currency without permission.

Fine, then you don't have any line item on their pay stub, you just pay them less than expected and hope nobody notices.

Mining doesn't generate currency, Thork. Also, you can't counterfeit Bitcoins.

Mining doesn't generate currency, Thork.
Of course it does. It releases new bitcoins into circulation. Like printing money.

Releasing currency and generating it is not the same thing. 21 million Bitcoins exist, period. There are no more or less than there ever will be. Stop acting like you know what you're talking about when you so clearly don't that it is painful to read your posts.

You just don't understand the system.

With bitcoins a central bank does not issue the currency. The idea is that the people issue their own currency. Its a libertarian ideal so that the people are in charge. Not a central bank or government. However, if someone releases more of that currency for themselves than they should, the system falls down. they have generated currency for themselves and broken the rules governing its distribution. This is called counterfeiting. If the bank of Scotland started distributing British pounds without the express consent of the Bank of England, that would be counterfeiting - see Bank of England Act 1844. This guy mining coins without permission is doing just that. He is adding to the supply of money 'illegally'.

False.

False, again.

This is called counterfeiting. This guy mining coins without permission is doing just that. He is adding to the supply of money 'illegally'.

Your analogy doesn't even remotely apply to Bitcoin. Thork, I'm seriously trying to help you, but if you keep resorting to making shit up rather than ask questions, I'm going to stop.

It was discovered that a IT guy at my high school used all the labs to mine all of last summer. I don't know how much he made, but it could've been pretty decent, considering the power and hardware were free to him.

I've already bought Mars. Yes, the entire planet. It was sold by some shady dude in an alley and the deed has coffee stains, but whatevs. Mars is mine. I'm filing a cease and desist order to NASA immediately. Those rovers are on my property.
