Fact
Fact - In the state of TX you can carry a handgun in your vehicle, as long as it is completely concealed, without a permit. For all you military folk, this does not apply on base. Exercise your second amendment rights, and protect yourself. BTW I have a number for a good Concealed Handgun Class for TX if anyone wants it. By the end of the class you have everything you need and just have to mail your package in.

I mean, the Handgun needs to be legal... but, yeah. You can carry a registered firearm out in the open so long as you follow the rules about staying away from schools and such.

Michigan is a state silly. But yes. Their was just an open carry gathering at a park last summer. Cops were NOT happy about it. it's one of those laws they try to discourage us from using to our benefit.

I know its a state, goofy.
Montana is open carry as well, you just can't do it inside any city limits. I think Arizona may be the same way. I didn't know about Michigan.

Dowtown Detroit at Night is nice. Its the rest of Detroit at night that sucks. But i dont go there.
My only concern with Detroit is where i work in the winter when its dark at 5:00 and im walking alone or with one other person in the lot. Otherwise, i just know where not to go. It's just like any other city. Most of the crime is black on black by the city dwellers.

I understand and respect the Second Amendment, but I don't get why carrying a gun without a permit is a good thing. Wardogg, do you have to have a general firearm permit to have a gun in the first place in Texas, or can anyone just hide a gun in their car?

It has to be a lawfully registered Firearm. Other than that, just carry it in accordance to law.
I personally love that michigan is an open carry state. I find it to be more of a deterrent than a CPL.

Open carry isn't illegal anywhere is it? I mean if you can possess a firearm you have to be able to transport it around and they prefer you do that in the open.
As a kid I used to walk through my town with my .22 to go target shoot in the country, the cops never said a word to me as I walked by.

Not if it's in a vehicle. And, i know some states have outlawed open carry. I just don't know which ones. Generally they would prefer you carry it in a locked container with ammo separate. Unlike open carry, which is putting your loaded gun in a holster and walking down the street with it.

I think long guns and hand guns are often treated differently regarding laws?

Ah, I know in ohio you can't have a loaded gun in a car without a concealed carry permit. Separate locked containers and all that deal.

It isn't the person that went to the trouble of obtaining a weapons permit, being placed on a registry, buying a weapon, taking the proper safety training and earning the right to carry a weapon in the open that I would be worried about.

Still, I'd be more worried about the person that has no physical and documented link to the weapon who could dump it in the river and get another one than the person with a connection through the state.
